We’ve now entered the hot summer season and the only thing on my mind is a cold, refreshing, creamy smoothie. But not just any smoothie, a fruity tropical smoothie is my go-to favorite. This easy Orange Pineapple Smoothie was just what I needed! It’s the perfect drink to start my mornings or a super simple midday snack. And my little lactose intolerant stomach was super excited to see that there is now lactose-free Greek yogurt in stores…yes!!😄 I do believe this may be your new summertime favorite smoothie recipe!
Orange Pineapple Smoothie Ingredients
You only need 6 simple ingredients to make this tropical orange pineapple smoothie:
- Frozen Pineapple & Frozen Mango - I originally wanted to use just frozen pineapple in this smoothie, but after testing it a couple times, I realized I wanted a different flavor profile. So I added some frozen mango in the mix and it was the perfect combination!
- Banana - Banana completes the trio of tropical fruit to make this the perfect smoothie. It adds a little bit of sweetness and lots of creaminess. You can use half of a fresh banana, which is plenty for 1 serving, and freeze the other half.
- Orange Juice - Smoothies always need a liquid and this time I went for orange juice. It adds sweetness and enhances the tropical flavors.
- Greek Yogurt - Greek yogurt gives the smoothie a rich and creamy consistency. It’s also a great source of protein and other nutrients. I've started to purchase lactose-free Greek yogurt, but feel free to use your favorite brand.
- Honey - Sweeteners for the most part are always optional in smoothies. But after testing this recipe a few times, I noticed the sweetness from the OJ just wasn’t enough, so I added a touch of honey and it balanced all of the flavors of this smoothie perfectly!
Smoothie Recipe Tips!
- Use frozen fruit for your smoothies! Frozen fruit gives you the perfect smoothie texture without having to use ice. Ice can water down your smoothie. So in this case you'll want to purchase frozen pineapple and frozen mango. It's also easier to keep frozen fruit in your freezer for whenever you get the urge to make a delicious smoothie!
- Add the liquid first. Add your liquid first to the blender when making a smoothie. This not only protects the blades in your blender but it also helps the ingredients to blend easier.
- When possible, use natural sweeteners. If you need to sweeten your smoothie, use natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup or dates.
