I’m sure by now y’all know I’m a BIG smoothie lover! I could drink smoothies every day. There are so many great health benefits to drinking smoothies, but the biggest one is probably the amount of vitamins and nutrients you can get in just one smoothie cup! I like to use a variety of superfoods like mixed berries, avocado, leafy greens, seeds & nuts. But this simple Blueberry Spinach Smoothie is one of my favs! It's creamy, delicious and super easy to make with only a few ingredients!

Ingredients for Blueberry Spinach Smoothie
The ingredients to make this yummy blueberry spinach smoothie are not only healthy, but also pretty simple. I usually always have them on hand! And you can also prep some smoothie freezer bags in advance to whip this up quick when you’re on the go!
Frozen Blueberries - Frozen blueberries are easy to find at most grocery stores. Just grab you a bag to keep in your freezer whenever you need them. Fun fact: Blueberries are also considered a Superfood!
Spinach - I prefer fresh spinach when I’m making a smoothie, unless I happen to add some spinach to my smoothie prep freezer bag. When buying spinach for your smoothies, make sure to purchase organic spinach!
Banana - Again frozen bananas work best as it gives the smoothie a thick, creamy consistency. Just peel your banana ahead of time, cut it in half and lay it in a single layer on a plate. Freeze in your freezer for about 3 hours. Then transfer the frozen banana from the plate to a freezer safe bag or air-tight container.
Almond milk - Almond milk goes perfectly with this smoothie but feel free to use regular whole milk as well. I also prefer using the vanilla flavored almond milk in my smoothies.
Honey (optional) - Sweeteners for the most part are always optional in smoothies. But a touch of honey would go nicely with this smoothie.
Ground flaxseeds or protein powder (optional) - I love adding ground flaxseeds to most of my smoothies. You can also add your favorite protein powder to this smoothie as well.
Tips For Making A Great Smoothie
Blend greens and liquid first. To get a really smooth green smoothie without bits and pieces of chopped spinach everywhere, blend your spinach with your liquid FIRST before adding any other ingredients. This will essentially make a spinach juice - then add the rest of your ingredients and blend until smooth. *Update - with my new Vitamix blender I now can skip this step, yay, but I still highly recommend it for other blenders.
Use frozen fruit for your smoothies. Frozen fruit gives you the perfect smoothie texture without having to use ice. Ice can sometimes water down your smoothie. So whenever you have the opportunity, always opt for frozen fruit.
Add your liquid first. Always add your liquid first to the blender when making a smoothie. This not only protects the blades in your blender but it also helps the ingredients to blend easier.
Sweeteners. Try to stay away from adding regular sugar to your smoothie. Use natural sweeteners instead like honey, maple syrup or dates instead.

I had some frozen blueberries and I'm so glad I used them to make this blueberry spinach smoothie. It was sweet enough on its own, but my hubby added the optional honey to his and said it was fantastic.
