I’m not sure there is anything quite like homemade bread, especially Homemade Garlic Bread. A buttery spread of garlic and fresh parsley gets baked into the soft, airy textures of a fresh loaf of bread. It’s literally my favorite! And it's easy to make, super fresh and tastes way better than frozen garlic bread. Do yourself a huge favor and treat yourself tonight with this easy garlic bread recipe!

Garlic Bread Ingredients

  • Fresh Baked French Bread: I love using freshly baked French or Italian bread when making this recipe because it has a softer texture on the inside. But a regular baguette will also work if that’s what your local store has available. A baguette won't be as soft, so keep that in mind when you’re making your decision.
  • Butter and Olive Oil: Real butter is the base ingredient for the garlic spread and extra virgin olive oil adds richness, flavor, and helps make the butter more spreadable.
  • Garlic and Garlic Powder: Fresh garlic cloves are a must! I like to use a garlic press to crush the cloves so that the garlic pieces aren’t too big. And adding just a pinch of garlic powder helps really give it a distinct garlic flavor.
  • Parsley: Parsley is a classic ingredient and I like using fresh parsley for this recipe.

How To Make Garlic Bread

French bread cut in half lengthwise with a serrated knife.

Step One: Start by cutting your loaf of bread in half lengthwise with a serrated knife.

Garlic butter ingredients mixed together in a bowl.

Step Two: Go ahead and take your butter out of the fridge early so that it’s soft enough to spread. Then in a small bowl combine all of the garlic butter ingredients.

Garlic bread placed on a large parchment lined baking sheet.

Step Three: Spread the garlic butter on the cut side of the bread. Place the bread on a large baking sheet. If you don’t have a large baking sheet, you can cut the bread in half again horizontally to make 4 smaller halves to place on a regular size baking sheet (example in the next photo).

Step Four: Bake until lightly golden brown and get ready to enjoy some of the best garlic bread you've ever tasted!!!

Make It Cheesy!

Want to make cheesy garlic bread? Just add some shredded mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, or a combination of both right on top right before you place it in the oven.
