Rinse, dry, and place the asparagus on a cutting board. Trim off the thick woody stem at the end of the asparagus spears. Then cut the asparagus into thirds.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil and butter. Once the butter has melted add the asparagus.
Toss the asparagus in the oil and butter and sauté for 4 minutes stirring occasionally. The asparagus will start to turn a bright green color.
After 4 minutes add the salt, black pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 2 minutes stirring occasionally until the asparagus is tender.
Remove the skillet from the heat and add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the top. You can also add some fresh grated parmesan cheese (optional) for a more savory flavor.
