Ingredients

  • 1 small yellow onion
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, divided
  • 12-14 oz. shaved ribeye steak
  • 1 Tablespoon steak seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 slices provolone cheese*
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls**

Garlic Butter

  • 6 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 garlic clove***, pressed or finely minced
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  • Cut the onion in half and slice it into thin strips. Slice the bell pepper into thin strips. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Sauté the onions and peppers for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, then transfer them to a separate plate.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the shaved steak and cook until fully brown.
  • Now add the sautéed pepper and onions to the skillet with the steak. Season with steak seasoning and Worcestershire sauce. Toss everything together. Lower the heat to medium-low heat and allow the steak to cook for 1-2 more minutes, then remove the skillet from the heat.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F, then make the garlic butter. Melt 6 tablespoon of butter in a small bowl in the microwave. Then add the garlic, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and parsley (optional). Stir everything together to combine.
  • Now slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9x13” baking dish or on a large sheet pan. Brush a little bit of the garlic butter on the cut side of the bottom rolls.
  • Add the steak mixture on top of the bottom rolls and spread it out evenly. Then place the provolone cheese slices on top in a single layer.
  • Place the top rolls on top of the steak and cheese. Brush the rest of the garlic butter on top of the rolls using a pastry brush or spoon it on top.
  • Loosely cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 12 minutes. After 12 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for 5 minutes until lightly golden brown. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Feel free to substitute Provolone cheese with Swiss or White American.
  2. If you can’t find Hawaiian rolls at your local store, you can substitute them with bakery dinner rolls.
  3. You can substitute fresh garlic with ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.
  4. Optional - if you want to add more juice to your steak, you can add ¼ cup of beef broth when you add the Worcestershire sauce.
