Instant Pot Apple Cinnamon Steel Cut Oatmeal is an easy breakfast recipe that uses cooked apples and steel cut oats, flavored with brown sugar and cinnamon for a creamy, thick and delicious oatmeal bowl.
1cupSteel Cut OatsDo not use instant oats or old-fashioned oats for this cooking method
1cupAlmond MilkI like sweetened vanilla
2cupswater
2tablespoonsbutter
2Gala apples
2tablespoonsbrown sugarfor apples
½teaspoonground cinnamon
¼teaspoonsalt
1tablespoonbrown sugarfor oatmeal after its cooked
Instructions
Wash and chop apples into bite size pieces. No need to peel.
Turn the Instant Pot on to saute mode. Add butter to the instant pot. Once butter is melted add chopped apples, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir well and allow apples to cook for 3 minutes. Once apples have cooked for a few minutes, remove to a separate bowl and set aside.
Turn off saute mode and add steel cut oats, milk, water and salt to the instant pot. Stir well and while you’re stirring scrape up any brown sugar that may have stuck to the bottom of the instant pot *(this step is very important to keep from getting a burn notice on the Instant Pot).
Add the Instant Pot lid and turn the pressure valve to the sealing position. Pressure cook on high for 4 minutes. Once the 4 minutes is complete, allow it to natural pressure release for 15 minutes.
Carefully turn the pressure release valve to “venting” to quick release the rest of the pressure.
Remove the lid and stir in brown sugar or maple syrup to sweeten the oatmeal.
Serve oatmeal with cooked cinnamon apples and enjoy! Oatmeal will naturally thicken as it sits.
Notes
Be sure to only use Steel Cut Oats for this cooking methodI use this recipe for meal prep. I will eat a big bowl and meal prep 2 bowls for later. When it’s time to warm up a bowl the next day, I like to add a little more milk when warming it up to make it creamy again as it naturally thickens over time.
