Ingredients

Sauce

  • cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes*
  • ½ tablespoon corn starch

Chicken

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.3 lbs.)
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

Instructions

  • In a small bowl mix together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, chicken broth, and red pepper flakes. Now stir in the corn starch. Mix until combined then set the sauce to the side.
  • Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel, then cut the chicken into small 1-inch pieces. Add the chicken to a mixing bowl and sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss the chicken in the seasoning. Then sprinkle the flour over the chicken and toss until each piece is evenly coated.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the cooking oil. I used avocado oil. Once the skillet is hot add the chicken. Cook the chicken until it is browned on both sides and cooked through. About 3 minutes on each side. Remove the cooked chicken to a separate plate and set aside. (Try not to crowd the pan. You can cook the chicken in 2 batches if you need to).
  • Now lower the heat to medium-low and melt the butter in the same skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
  • Give the honey sauce another stir then add it to the skillet. Stir and scrape up any brown bits that are stuck to the bottom of the pan. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes until it begins to thicken.
  • Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet and mix with the sauce until all the chicken is evenly coated.
  • Allow the chicken to simmer with the sauce for 2-3 more minutes then turn the heat off. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds (optional) and enjoy!

Notes

  1. The crushed red pepper flakes add a little heat to balance out the sweetness of the sauce. You can substitute it with a teaspoon or two of sriracha or chili garlic sauce.
