Cooking rice is probably the easiest thing you can make in your Instant Pot. This Instant Pot White Jasmine Rice is fluffy, super easy to make and goes perfectly with several recipes. It’s a quick 15-20 minute side dish that comes out perfect every time!

Rice is one of the first things that I started cooking in my Instant Pot because it was so simple. I can turn it on while cooking the rest of my food and it's ready at the same time as everything else. This is especially helpful when making my quick 20-minute Honey Butter Garlic Chicken and this Asian Ground Turkey Stir Fry recipe!
The Instant Pot is perfect for making White or Brown rice, Jasmine rice, Basmati rice, honestly any type of rice. The cook times may vary depending on the type of rice you are cooking, but the steps and process are basically the same.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR INSTANT POT WHITE RICE
Jasmine white rice - This recipe and cook time also works with regular long-grain white rice.
Sea salt
Water or Broth - I mostly use water when cooking white rice in the instant pot, but you can also use chicken or vegetable broth for extra flavor.
HOW TO COOK JASMINE RICE IN THE INSTANT POT
Full instructions are included in the recipe card below, but here’s a quick overview:
Step One: Measure your rice and rinse it well in a fine mesh strainer under cool water. Add rinsed rice to the Instant Pot.
Step Two: Pour in water or broth and a pinch of salt. Gently stir and make sure all of the rice is pressed completely under the water.
Step Three: Close the lid, turn the pressure valve to sealing and pressure cook using the automatic rice setting or you can manually set the time. If using manual setting, set for 4 minutes on high pressure. I prefer the rice setting which is a slow low pressure cook setting for 12 minutes. It gives me enough time to finish cooking whatever meal we plan to eat with the rice. But if you’re looking for a quick cook time then go with the high pressure setting. *(note: it will take the instant pot approximately 8 minutes to reach pressure and start cooking).
Step Four: After the cook time has ended, allow the instant pot to do a 10 minute natural pressure release, regardless of which method you choose, then quick release any remaining pressure. Carefully remove the lid and fluff with a fork. Enjoy!
WHAT INSTANT POT DO YOU NEED?
To cook rice you can use any Instant Pot. I use the Instant Pot Duo 6 quart (which is an older model). The 6 quart is the perfect size for making rice along with several other meals for a family of 4-5. If you have a larger family and need to cook for 6-8 people then you may want to invest in a 8 quart Instant Pot.
TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST JASMINE RICE
Rinse your rice. Rinse your rice under cool water in a fine mesh strainer for up to a minute or until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch from the rice and creates a softer rice.
For extra flavor use broth instead of water. Most of the time I use water when cooking rice, but whenever I want a boost of flavor I will use chicken broth. It's an easy substitute and works perfectly if you are serving the rice with a roasted or baked chicken dish. If I am serving the rice with one of my Asian stir-fry recipes then water works just fine.
