An easy Chicken Tetrazzini Casserole recipe that’s full of tender chicken meat, vegetables and just a few pantry ingredients to make a delicious, super satisfying family meal.

This is an oldie but goodie family recipe that my mom shared with me years ago. It’s creamy, a little cheesy and packed with tender chicken breast meat. It’s hands down one of my favorites and the best part is it makes a lot! So there’s always leftovers.
WHAT IS CHICKEN TETRAZZINI?
Chicken Tetrazzini is an American casserole dish with several different variations, but it’s often made with some type of poultry like chicken or turkey, mushrooms and pasta in a creamy, buttery sauce and often topped with cheese.
INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED
Chicken Breasts - I prefer using chicken breasts in my chicken tetrazzini casserole, I’m a chicken breast kind of girl, but feel free to use a mixture of chicken breast and thighs or even a rotisserie chicken to make it really easy.
Celery, Bell Pepper and Onion - A combination of chopped celery, green bell pepper and onion (often called the Holy Trinity of vegetables) will give this recipe a ton of flavor!
Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken - Grab a can of both to add more flavor and a creamy texture to the casserole.
Egg Noodles - or spaghetti pasta
Chicken Broth
Sharp Cheddar Cheese - Definitely don't skip the cheese at the end and make sure it’s sharp cheddar cheese.
Salt & Pepper
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
This chicken tetrazzini recipe is really easy to make with just a few simple steps. The full instructions are included in the recipe card below, but here’s a quick overview:
Step One: Boil your chicken breasts using the slow-boil method. This is a proven way to get the most tender, fall apart chicken breast meat. You can get the full instructions + a step-by-step video on how to properly boil chicken breasts here.
Step Two: In a really large bowl add cooked egg noodles, finely chopped veggies, shredded cooked chicken breast meat and the remaining ingredients (except the cheese). Gently mix everything together.
Step Three: Add everything to a buttered 9x13 casserole dish, bake in the oven until bubbly and lightly brown on top. Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese during the last 5-10 minutes of cooking.
Step Four: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes. Enjoy by itself or with your favorite salad!
RECIPE TIPS
- Don’t forget to salt your water when boiling your egg noodles. It helps add flavor to the pasta while it's cooking.
- Short on time? Grab a cooked rotisserie chicken from your local grocery store. Pull apart the meat and shred it with a fork or your hands. Just make sure to get one without bold flavors so it doesn’t overpower the dish. I usually go for a lemon-pepper chicken or something similar when using this method.
- Don’t skip the sharp cheddar cheese at the end. It gives the casserole a rich flavor and extra goodness.

- Yield: 6-8 1x
Description
This Easy Chicken Tetrazzini Casserole recipe is a creamy, delicious, satisfying family meal that only requires a few ingredients!
Ingredients
- 2-3 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and shredded (or 1 rotisserie chicken, shredded)
- 10 ounces egg noodles
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 stalks of celery, finely chopped
- 1 - 10 ounce can Cream of Mushroom Soup
- 1 - 10 ounce can Cream of Chicken Soup
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 6-8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook pasta according to the package instructions. Once al dente, drain and set aside.
-
Shred boiled chicken breasts or rotisserie chicken with a fork or clean hands.
-
In a large bowl add cooked pasta, finely chopped onion, bell pepper and celery, shredded cooked chicken meat and remaining ingredients (cream of mushroom & cream of chicken soup, salt, pepper, chicken broth). Gently mix everything together. *Do not add the cheese just yet*
-
Next melt butter in a 9x13 baking dish by placing it in the preheated oven. Once butter is melted, carefully remove the baking dish from the oven with oven mitts.
-
Next add chicken tetrazzini casserole mixture to the buttered baking dish and bake in the oven for 40 minutes or until the sides are bubbling.
-
Carefully remove casserole dish from the oven and add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese on top. Place tetrazzini back in the oven for 5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.
-
Once done remove chicken tetrazzini casserole from the oven and allow dish to rest for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley (optional) and enjoy!
Notes
Prep time includes the time it takes to slow boil your chicken breasts. If you are using a store-bought rotisserie chicken then you can skip this step and just proceed to shred your rotisserie chicken.
2 large chicken breasts is often what I use and ends up being plenty, but if you want a little more chicken meat then boil 3 chicken breasts instead.
If you have a larger size onion and bell pepper, you only need to chop half of each one.
If you are using a 12 ounce bag of egg noodles, be sure to only use 2/3 of the bag (approximately 10 ounces). If you use the entire bag it will be too many noodles.
